What does a pension plan have to do with the polar bear and the giant panda?
All three are nearly extinct…
Usually, some organization is actively raising funds to save these endangered animals. They run awareness campaigns, have catchy slogans, and sell buttons.
What about pension plans? Endangered, almost extinct. And organizations are doing little, if anything to save them.
In our grandparents’ day, people worked for the same company for 50 years and retired with a gold watch and a lifetime pension income to support them during retirement.
Not today. In 2017 only about 16 percent of Fortune 500 employers had pensions, down from 59 percent in 1998. Pensions have gone from common to endangered.
There are no organization out there lobbying to get them back. Soon you will find pension plans on the extinct list, along with the Dodo bird.
What does that mean for people still working today?
You may be on your own when it comes to your future…
We suggest coming up with a plan.
